It can feel scary to see blood in your urine, but this post is here to address that fear

When someone sees. blood in their. urine, the condition is called “Hematuria”

Sometimes it may be a result of minor conditions like strenuous exercise

Other times it could mean a more serious health condition

Before we go dip into this matter, I’d like us to note that ;

There are two types of hematuria

Calm down, we will take this class also and steady

Come with me 👇

If. you can see the blood with your naked eyes. it is. called Gross Hematuria

The type. that is seen only under a microscope is called Microscopic Hematuria

In this second type, you’re likely to know when you visit a doctor and he asks that you test your urine

What are the symptoms of Hematuria ?

Now, hematuria is usually noticed when blood is observed in the urine

The urine may appear pink or red

Most times, it’s painless and the amount of blood that changes the urine color is usually small

Sometimes it could be painful if the blood comes as clots in the urine

What causes blood to be found in the urine?

🍭UTIs

🍭Bladder and kidney stones

🍭Certain cancers; prostate, kidney, and bladder

🍭Sickel cell anemia

🍭Alport syndrome; an inherited condition that damages tiny blood vessels in the kidney.

Are these all? No dear

🍭Pyelonephritis; kidney infection

🍭Prostatitis

🍭Enlarged prostate / BPH

🍭Certain medications; Blood thinner, Antiplatelets, certain cancer medications, and Antibiotics.

🍭Endometriosis; in some cases

It may interest you to know that microscopic hematuria is more common than the gross hematuria

This means that most people who have hematuria don’t see the blood with their naked eyes

According to research, for every 5 persons that a urologist evaluates, 1 person is usually diagnosed with hematuria

If you ever any change in urine colour or pain when you urinate, please see a Doctor.
