It can feel scary to see blood in your urine, but this post is here to address that fear
When someone sees. blood in their. urine, the condition is called “Hematuria”
Sometimes it may be a result of minor conditions like strenuous exercise
Other times it could mean a more serious health condition

There are two types of hematuria

If. you can see the blood with your naked eyes. it is. called Gross Hematuria
The type. that is seen only under a microscope is called Microscopic Hematuria
In this second type, you’re likely to know when you visit a doctor and he asks that you test your urine
What are the symptoms of Hematuria ?
Now, hematuria is usually noticed when blood is observed in the urine
The urine may appear pink or red
Most times, it’s painless and the amount of blood that changes the urine color is usually small
Sometimes it could be painful if the blood comes as clots in the urine
What causes blood to be found in the urine?
🍭UTIs
🍭Bladder and kidney stones
🍭Certain cancers; prostate, kidney, and bladder
🍭Sickel cell anemia
🍭Alport syndrome; an inherited condition that damages tiny blood vessels in the kidney.

🍭Prostatitis
🍭Enlarged prostate / BPH
🍭Certain medications; Blood thinner, Antiplatelets, certain cancer medications, and Antibiotics.
🍭Endometriosis; in some cases
It may interest you to know that microscopic hematuria is more common than the gross hematuria
This means that most people who have hematuria don’t see the blood with their naked eyes
According to research, for every 5 persons that a urologist evaluates, 1 person is usually diagnosed with hematuria
